This Site in an area of low population density in central Spain consists of two large and shallow freshwater lagoons. It is immersed in an agricultural landscape of extensive rainfed cereal crops, far from other important wetlands. A rich variety of plants and animals are found, with a confirmed presence of about 70 taxa, some of them endemic and/or threatened, such as the vulnerable water clover (Marsilea strigosa), European turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur) and common pochard (Aythya ferina). The Site is part of the Natura 2000 Network and it has been declared a Nature Reserve. The two lagoons are characteristic seasonal and endorheic reed wetlands, which accumulate water depending on rainfall, and their seasonal cycles of annual flooding and drying are threatened by climate change and associated periods of continuous drought. The Site features two wildlife observer points for public use.
