Overview

Lago di Tovel. 19/09/80; Trentino Alto Adige; 37 ha; 46°16'N 010°57'E. Special Protection Area EC Directive; Natural Park. An alpine, freshwater lake, surrounded by forested mountains. The lake supports an endemic species of unicellular algae, Glenodinium sanguineum, which reddens the water seasonally. The area supports a rich mammal fauna. Human activities include camping and hiking. Ramsar site no. 210. Most recent RIS information: 1998.
