Esthwaite Water. 07/11/91; England; 137 ha; 54°22'N 002°59'W. National Park, National Nature Reserve, SSSI, Environmentally Sensitive Area. A freshwater lake situated in a formerly glaciated valley, includes open water, fen and grassland communities supporting plant and breeding bird species typical of such habitats. Amongst features of national importance are the rare plants Najas flexilis and Carex elongata, and several uncommon aquatic invertebrates, including the water flea, Alonella exigua.
