Overview

Mühlenberger Loch. 09/06/92; Hamburg; 675 ha; 53°32'N 009°48'E. Nature Reserve. An embayment of a tidal section of the Elbe River and extensive mudflats exposed at low tide. An internationally important area for wintering and staging several species of waterbirds and the most important staging area in Northern Europe for Anas clypeata. The site supports plants endemic to the freshwater tidal areas and is an important breeding area for many native fish species. Human activities include water sports, which are controlled.
