Overview
Booby Pond & Rookery. 21/09/94; Cayman Islands; 82 ha; 19°40'N 080°04'W. The site is a representative example of a coastal, landlocked, mangrove-fringed saline lagoon system of a kind that is widespread among low-lying islands in the region. It contains a breeding colony of approximately 7,000 Red-footed Boobies (Sula sula) which accounts for at least 30% of the total Caribbean population. Human activities include tourism, fishing, and hunting. Ramsar site no. 702.
